Additional Hawaiian resources

This segment of the supplementary materials is formatted as an extension to the printed book, paginated S.1–S.33. It contains two sections that could not be fitted into the printed book:

  • A transcription and translation of a series of articles by Joseph M. Poepoe entitled ”Moolelo Hawaii Kahiko” that were published in the newspaper Ka Naʻi Aupuni during 1906 (§2.2.11); and
  • Further installments of Haho’s “Moolelo Kahiko no Hawaii” published in the newspaper Ka Hoku o Hawaii during 1929 (§§2.4.6–2.4.9).

It is downloadable as a PDF file.

Pages from the first edition

This section contains a scanned copy of a section of the first edition that has not been systematically updated for inclusion in the third.

It is downloadable as a PDF file.

Table 6.1 with additional technical data

This segment of the supplementary materials is formatted as an extension to the printed book, paginated S.34–S.37. In order to incorporate the width of the table it is presented in a double-page format without a center margin.

It is downloadable as a PDF file.

Catalogue 4: Torres Strait Islander star names

This, together with Catalogue 5, is contained within a segment of the supplementary materials formatted as an extension to the printed book, paginated S.38 onwards. They, and the accompanying notes, reverse table of Western identifications, supplements to the main appendices, and additional references, constitute Chapter 8.

This segment will be available shortly.

Catalogue 5: Aboriginal Australian star names

This, together with Catalogue 4, is contained within a segment of the supplementary materials formatted as an extension to the printed book, paginated S.38 onwards. They, and the accompanying notes, reverse table of Western identifications, supplements to the main appendices, and additional references, constitute Chapter 8.

In view of the richness of the available information pertaining to Wardaman astronomy, Catalogue 5 is split into two parts: Catalogue 5a contains Wardaman star names, while the remainder are listed in Catalogue 5b.

This segment will be available shortly.

We also plan to release a table of Aboriginal stories relating to particular stars and asterisms, based on a database compiled by Duane Hamacher and his colleagues.

Month and day names in Polynesia and Austronesia

This segment has been delayed and will be released in due course.
